SUMBAL RETURNS IN GRAND PRIX DE DEAUVILLE

Sumbal makes his keenly-awaited reappearance tomorrow when he runs in Deauville's Gr.2 Lucien Barriere Grand Prix de Deauville (16.10 local time, 15.10 in Britain). Qatar Racing's grey son of Danehill Dancer takes on six rivals, and faces older horses for the first time in his career - the only other three-year-old in the race is British challenger Scottish from Andrew Balding's stable. Sumbal, who is trained by Francis Graffard, made his racecourse debut in March and won his first three races impressively, including the Gr.2 Prix Greffulhe, before he took fifth spot in the Prix du Jockey-Club at Chantilly in June. He clearly relished soft ground during the spring and so was given a break for an autumn campaign, which begins tomorrow. Andrea Atzeni is in the saddle. OLLY AND HETTA STEVENS TO QUIT TRAINING
